"Mom"
May 14, 1910 - November 5, 2000

On November 5, 2000, Oliva Taitano Torres Cruz, was called home to GOD after a long illness. She passed peacefully in her sleep while at Guam Memorial Hospital. She was born in 1910 and has seen many things over her lifetime. "Mom and Pop", (her late husband Ignacio Alcantara Cruz), survived World War Two without losing any of their children. Pop went home to GOD in 1989. Someone once said "A parent should never have to bury their child" and Mom has been blessed in that respect. It was hard for her to see her husband, her two younger sisters, Beatrice Sablan(Ding) and Rosalia Torres(Lang) and Mark's youngest sister Lynn go before her, but she has persevered through it all.

Grandmother to Eddie Jr., Mark and Kook Cruz, she has 9 children. Four boys, Ignacio, Eddie, Noel and James and five girls, Olivia, June, MayAnn, Jane and Catherine. They in turn gave her 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. The oldest of the great-grands is 19 and the youngest is 1 year-old.

Funeral services were held on Saturday the 11th day of November at the Agana Heights General Baptist Church. The church was built in memory of Mom's father, Manuel Flores Torres. Viewing began at 9:00 a.m. and Memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Afterward she was laid to rest with "Pop" at the Custino Baptist Cemetery in East Agana.

Thank you for sharing her memory with us.
